Over Two Decades in the Field
Many trainers learn from a franchise manual and a multiple-choice test. My education came from over two decades of raw, hands-on work in the field, on the ranch, and in the real world.
From Horses to Dogs
Before I ever took a dog client, I trained horses professionally — colt starting and tune-ups. A thousand-pound animal leaves no room for error. You learn exactly how much pressure to apply, and far more importantly, exactly when to release it. Different species. Identical laws.
Across the Full Range of Canine Work
My years with dogs span the highest tiers of canine capability. I trained Labrador Retrievers as elite duck dogs — distance control, high-drive focus, and steadiness under extreme distraction. On the opposite end, I owner-trained my personal German Shepherd to elite service-dog task standard: tactile stimulation, deep pressure therapy, and flawless public neutrality.

What That Means for Your Dog
Word of mouth did the rest. Friends, neighbors, private clients — mostly the dogs that standard obedience classes couldn’t touch. Heavy reactivity, lunging, frantic barking, chronic pulling. Because I’ve navigated everything from high-drive hunting lines to hyper-vigilant service work, I don’t get frustrated by difficult dogs. I find the root cause and build a bridge.

The “Yes”
We use food, toys, high praise, and marker training to teach new behaviors from scratch. If we want your dog to sit, lie down, or walk calmly beside you, we make sure it pays exceptionally well. This builds a motivated dog who loves to work.
The “No”
A relationship built only on bribes will fail when high distractions arrive. Once your dog fully understands a command, we introduce fair, low-level feedback using tools matched to your dog's temperament — slip lead, prong collar, or premium e-collar. Your dog learns exactly when a choice is unacceptable, so they listen the first time.

The Tools
What we actually use, and why.
These are communication devices, not punishment. Every behavior is taught first with food, toys, praise, and marker training. Tools only come in once the dog already understands what is being asked.
The E-Collar
Most people hear “e-collar” and picture a shock collar. That is not what this is. The stimulation we use sits at a level most people can barely feel on their own hand. Think of the seatbelt chime in your car: it is not painful, it is just a signal that something needs your attention, and it stops the moment you respond. The dog learns the same thing. A light tap means come here, and coming here turns it off. It is never used as punishment. It is what makes a genuinely reliable recall possible at distance, when your voice will not reach.
The Prong Collar
A prong collar looks harsh and does the opposite. It distributes gentle, even pressure around the neck the way a mother dog corrects her pups with her teeth — she is not trying to hurt her puppy, she is saying that is not acceptable. On a flat collar, stopping a dog that is pulling hard takes a real snap of the leash, which puts far more strain on the neck. A prong lets a light touch carry the same message. Less pressure, not more.
