Firm Foundation K9 Academy runs a four-week puppy board and train near San Antonio, Texas. Your puppy lives and trains in a private home — not a kennel — with one trainer working two dogs at a time, maximum. You get back a puppy with reliable recall, crate and potty training handled, and the mouthing already behind you.
Most people call a trainer after something has gone wrong. The chewing, the jumping, the leash pulling, the dog that will not come when called.
Puppyhood is the one window where you are not fixing anything. You are deciding what the dog becomes.
A puppy who learns that coming when called always works, that a crate is a good place to be, and that teeth do not belong on skin, does not need those things fixed at two years old. That is the whole argument for training early rather than waiting.

We take puppies from eight weeks old. Some trainers will not look at a dog until five months, which means the first three months — the ones that matter most — happen without guidance.
Already older? A puppy between five and eighteen months is in the adolescent stretch, where the manners you taught quietly stop working. That is what the 2-Week Adolescent Essentials program is built for.
A group class is one hour a week in a room full of other puppies, with you doing the training in between. That works for some people. It asks a lot of your week and it asks you to be the trainer.
A board and train is different. Your puppy is being trained every day, in a house, by someone who has spent decades reading animals. The habits form correctly the first time instead of being corrected later.
The turn-over lesson at the end is two hours, and it is not optional. A trained puppy going home to an untrained owner does not stay trained.
This is a real cost and a month without your puppy at home. It is worth being straight about who should not book it.

Public proofing happens where your puppy will actually live — parking lots, sidewalks, parks, around traffic and strangers and other dogs. A puppy who only behaves at home has not learned anything portable.
